# MCP Gateway

> Configure and manage MCP tool servers for governed AI agent access.

The ***MCP Gateway*** page is where you configure the tool servers, or the MCP endpoints your agents connect to.

## Tool Servers

**Tool Servers** lists your tool servers and their agent URLs. Use the search bar to filter tool servers by name.

</Frame>

**Tool Servers** contains the following information about each tool server:

* **Name**—the user-defined name of the tool server.
* **MCP Servers**—icons representing the MCP servers your agent is connected to through the tool server.
* **Agent URL**—the endpoint URL your agents connect to, generated automatically when you create the tool server. Click the copy icon to copy the endpoint into your AI client.

Each row includes edit and delete icons. Selecting one or more rows with the checkboxes reveals a **Delete** button to remove them in bulk.

Tool servers that include 3rd party MCP servers also show a **How to Connect** link. Clicking it opens a dialog with instructions for connecting your agent to that tool server.

### Add a Tool Server

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Click **+ Add Tool Server**. An **Add Tool Server** dialog appears.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    In **Step 1: Details**, enter a **Name** for your tool server. Names must use lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens, and dots only. Click **Next**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    In **Step 2: Select MCP Servers**, add the MCP servers to bundle in this tool server.

    The left pane summarizes the servers in this tool server: the number of CData Source MCPs selected and a list of any 3rd party MCP servers added. The right pane is the browse and configuration area.

    **CData Source MCPs**: In the right pane, browse or search for the data source MCPs available in your Connect AI workspace. Select the checkbox next to each source you want to include. Each entry shows the tool prefix applied to that source's tools (for example, *mailchimp2\_\**). The left pane updates to show the number of selected sources.

    **3rd Party MCP Servers** (optional): In the left pane, click **+ Add 3rd Party MCP Server**. An entry form appears on the right. Enter the following information:

    * **Name**—a name for this MCP server. The name is used as a prefix on this server's tool names to keep them distinct.
    * **Upstream MCP URL**—the endpoint of the upstream MCP server. Must be an HTTPS endpoint serving MCP over HTTP+SSE or Streamable HTTP.
    * **Authentication**—select the authentication type and follow the relevant instructions below.

    <Tabs>
      <Tab title="Per-user OAuth (automatic setup)">
        The upstream server uses OAuth with user consent. Connect AI handles the OAuth flow automatically. This authentication type requires no additional fields.
      </Tab>

      <Tab title="Per-user token">
        Each user provides their own token to authenticate with the upstream server. After the tool server is created, click **How to Connect** in the Tool Servers list to open a dialog where you can enter your token.
      </Tab>
    </Tabs>

    Click **+ Add 3rd Party MCP Server** again to add additional servers to this tool server.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Click **Add**. The new tool server appears in the **Tool Servers** list with an automatically generated **Agent URL**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  **Step 3: Configure Tools** is coming soon. The tool server currently exposes every tool on every upstream server.
</Note>

## Connect to a Tool Server

Copy the **Agent URL** from the **Tool Servers** list and configure your AI client to use it as an MCP server.

If the tool server includes 3rd party MCP servers, click **How to Connect** to complete authentication. For **Per-user OAuth**, you are prompted to sign in to the upstream server in a browser. For **Per-user token**, enter your token in the dialog.
